Surfing Swells with Dolphins 23 Jan 2010

The paddle saw a the crew set out toward the lighthouse into a slight northeasterly wind. Just before the turn around the group was greeted by a lone dolphin who jumped out of the water betwen 2 kayaks. Then in the distance we noticed about 30 dolphins all jumping toward us from all different directions. They milled around for a while and then 2 jumped about 15 foot vertically out of the water with one doing a backflip. Better than Sea World hey! We then set out back to the the Harbour with dolphins riding the swells besideus , jumping from the water, riding the swells beneath us upside down showing off their white bellies. I had one jump about an arm length aware and another jumped just in front of the bow of the boat. It was amazing! They did it for about 15 minutes and then disappeared just as fast as when they appeared.

Where's Wally the dolphin?

A day like no other. Neil watches the dolphins play.

Calm Sea for First 2010 Paddle

The first paddle for 2010 saw the crew leave the harbour and head north to the rocks off Korora. There was a few mishaps along the way with the apprentice cameraman taking dip off Muttonbird Island. After a brief rest at Korora, the race was on into a southerly headwind back to the harbour to chase down Mark Sutton who had broke away for the pack. Tim Cotsell showed some fine form chasing down runnings in praparation for this weekends Sunshine Coast Ocean Paddle. Go for it Tim!

This weekends paddle starts at a new time of 6:30am. All are welcome.
